Cottonwood Cemetery, Wylie Texas Cottonwood is located down the road from us, a short walk. The "Private Property" sign (although very faded) is still sitting next to the cemetery sign and flagpole (when there used to be an additional sign announcing "No Trespassing:, along with a phone number to call to gain entry, but that sign is gone, as far as we know).
Located on Whitley Road in the Dallas County section of Wylie, this cemetery was established in 1875 and deemed a historical cemetery in 2003. Cottonwood is a small burial ground, only about 1.9 acres. There are approximately 201 marked graves and about 30 unmarked, the stones went missing years ago. Final resting places not only hold the names of early settlers and first pioneers of the Cottonwood Community, but also Veterans of the Civil War, Mexican War, Korea and World Wars I and II. Early graves had been dug by members of the nearby Cottonwood Community. Sadly, several markers and monuments had, in the past, been broken by vandals. Why anyone would disrespect final resting places is unimaginable to us.
Since we live within walking distance of this cemetery, we decided to investigate on October 22, 2006. We respected the signs posted and did not enter the cemetery. There was alot of orb activity, but the best orbs we photographed are seen here. EVP recording in Cottonwood was awful. Although located on a country road, cars driving by were a problem. Dogs owned by nearby residents barked often, making it difficult to record anything...but we were able to capture one EVP while outside the gates.
While Jim doesn't take the presence of orbs all that seriously, I'm always happy to see photos of good ones such as this. Another fainter orb can be seen between the tree branches on the right of this photo.
Another big orb. Since I did pick up the voice of a woman during our EVP session, this led me to wonder if this orb was the spirit of that woman. Who knows? We did find it interesting that the orbs in all of the above photos seemed to stay near the same tree. These three photos were not taken in quick succession. Between each shot of the tree area, Jim moved around to different areas to take the photos, then would return to shoot pictures in the direction of this tree. Update 2009: We did return one summer evening at dusk and walked the grounds, but did not pick up anything on film or recordings. As Cottonwood is a historical cemetery, and a beautifully quaint resting place, please be respectful when visiting, and respect warning signs posted. Contact us here - mina@texashauntsociety.com
